    Hello I really am enjoying your strawberry videos thank you I am learning a lot. I do have one question ( well for now😁) I planted barefoot strawberries in late March and mid April . I noticed that some of the planting containers are not draining well and the soil is very wet, the days of rain haven’t helped. So my question is can I transplant to a new location only 2 months after planting with better drainage and maybe better soil? Thank you

    • @TheLivingFarmPaonia
      @TheLivingFarmPaonia 5 днів тому

      Yes you can transplant. Trim off all but 2 leaves in the center to balance out the plant before you transplant. This will help the plant with transplant shock.

    Great info, thanks. I must admit to having a bit of a blank regarding Dolomite, so, may I ask you please, is there any natural suitable source of dolomite lying around the house, or, which foods are high in it and could be added to a worm bin. Could dolomite tablets [sleep aids] from a health shop be added?🙄😅🤍

    Oh god the soil. That brings back memories. My parents lived in Houston when I was a kid. Mom used to tell a story about the first time grandad (who was a big time gardener) came down to visit. As mom told it, the first thing he did was dig up a chunk and make a pot out of it. Bear in mind, grandpa was also a potter. Took mom years to improve the beds enough to do the stuff she wanted, and then we moved...

    Excellent video. I grew up on the road because my dad was a traveling construction worker. In 1970, we drove up the Alaskan Hwy and were homeless for a month before my dad got work at the University of Alaska Agricultural Station in College, AK, just outside Fairbanks. We were dirt poor but the job came with housing and a big garden space, along with access to University seed banks. We grew way more food than we could eat. I learned that summer, the year of my 14th birthday. From that time, I’ve been a gardener as often as possible.

    There are scale bugs all over my fruit salad citrus tree. This is the first year I can remember it being so bad. There are a large number of lemons that have holes and bugs on them. A few lemons have white fuzz all over them. I believe the tree is a semi-dwarf with Meyer lemons, mandarin oranges, navels and limes. Mostly there are lemons. There are flowers, as well, so I know more fruit is coming. I've also seen many snails and some of the lemons have grown to be the size of a grapefruit with a thick skin. From what I heard, this could be a sign of a lack of nutrients. I live near the San Diego coast. Can I spray neem oil now? Should I remove the fruit first? I appreciate your advice.

    Lynn, you have invigorated me to try planting Egyptian onions again for my wife. Our last row grew for several years expanding to a second row. However, I dug out a few bulbs from the front row and all of the Egyptian onions died. My question is not how to grow them again but rather, why when the green onions grow larger diameters later in the season did they get tough and unusable? Yours pictured are large diameter and I assume they were still tender.

    • @TheLivingFarmPaonia
      @TheLivingFarmPaonia 27 днів тому

      Those onions in the picture we grew in the greenhouse is really great sandy loam soil. I think the greenhouse kept them tender and allowed them to grow large. My guess is that you may want to mulch your plants and water them more to keep them tender. I hope that helped!

    I just purchased some nematodes from a nursery. They never mentioned anything about chlorine being bad. I also purchased an attachment to hook onto a hose to spray the nematodes on garden. I think most large cities have chlorinated water. Even if I proceed as you did in this video, I’ll still be watering my plants with city chlorinated water. What do you recommend?

    • @TheLivingFarmPaonia
      @TheLivingFarmPaonia Місяць тому

      I would apply with unchlorinated water because they will be sitting in the water when applied. I hope that they can get away for the chlorine in the city water if they are in the soil. Let me know how it works out.

    * There is an error in the video. Under the options for nitrogen I said bone meal instead of blood meal. Here is the recipe: You will want to measure by volume not weight. Nitrogen: 2 parts of cottonseed meal, feather meal, blood meal, bat guano, fish meal, or soybean meal. Phosphorus: 1 part bone meal, soft rock phosphate or crab shell meal Potassium: 1 part greensand, wood ashes, or sulfate of potash ( Sul-Po-Mag) Calcium: 1 part calcium carbonate (limestone) or dolomite (dolomitic limestone) Micronutrients and the rest of the macronutrients will be found in kelp meal: ½ part kelp meal

    • @nz5752
      @nz5752 3 дні тому

      Thank you! I'm not understanding what you mean by Volume not by weight. Would you please explain what that means. Always tried to grow Strawberries 🍓, but always fail. Mostly because I'm just started gardening. First year was an epic Fail! Second year got little vegetables, Third year learn from my mistakes and started spraying to Deter bugs ... much better yield... also started feeding with kelp and of course bone meal & Tomato fertilizer. At the end of the season learn about Agro liquid fertilizer for fruiting plants which is amazing! Trying to be conscious about chemicals & pesticides. Using neem oil & Sals Soap [Dr. Bronners] to get rid of bugs & learn if you put too much nitrogen in the fertilizer the bugs start attacking the plants Anyhow, the slugs are the only ones enjoying the few Strawberries that I do get. The Positive is: Gardening is so expensive! But, the good part is that one knows how delicious and pesticide free the food is. I've had good results with Cheery Tomatoes & Peppers like I mention above. I bought 3 Blueberry plants from Aldi ($8). I'm so glad I came across your channel. I want to get some fruit from these berries (Strawberries & Blueberries) Also like to ask, do you use yeast (some people on UA-cam swear by using this as a fertilizer) or recommend using this to fertilize plants? Thank you for taking the time to read and answer this, I sure appreciate you response.
